(I was going to write this as a comment. But I thought it might get a little too long...)

I think you should totally do this!
It's not right that you guys just got brushed off like that.
If this was something that you were willing to put your energy's into, and you truly believe this is important, then  it's important that you take a stand.

I mean, as a teen, I think I would be interested in hearing kids my age speak about something that's happened(and is happening) to other children. It's something teens can relate to more than only being to and having the opportunity to think about what is now the older generation.

I do think it's important to remember both. Each situation effects our history and who were are and able to be today.
I think that this could become something big, and if you can be the person to bring this topic to light.
Go for it.
Show them that they can't just push something like this under the rug and get away with it.
And if you do end up ruffling some feathers, it's for a good cause.
Don't stay quite. It might be the easy thing to do, but is it worth it?

You may be crazy, but look at history.
It's always the crazy ones who end up making a difference.
