I think remembrance day is important.
I understand what you're saying Katlin, and all you're points are valid, but isn't the same true of every Holiday we celebrate or acknowledge?
I believe it's important to remember what's happened in the past so that we don't make the same mistakes in the future.
I think your speech definitely shouldn't have been cut, because you're right, it totally relates. But let's be honest that's not the fault of remembrance day itself, it's only the opinion of someone of higher power in your school who is ignorant of the fact that remembrance day is not just about one war that happened long ago, it's about everyone who was effected by any war, anywhere.
Like I said, I think remembrance day is like any holiday
Saying "if they did so much for us... why think of them only once a year?" is very true.
But you can also have a list of every other Holiday or day of importance (earthday, christmas, mother's day, father's day, family day, random acts of kindness day... need I go on?)
I think if you really believe in what you're celebrating it shouldn't ever be a once a year thing.
"Lest we forget" might not apply to those who support our troops now, but not everyone agrees with that either, right?
I guess remembrance day is like any holiday, religion, or lifestyle.
It means something to you that it might not to someone else.
It's very personal.
Like most holidays, the real reasons for it's existence has been lost somewhere a long the way.
I think remembrance day is important.
When I think about it, it's not just about the veterans who died, it's about those who lived had to face the memories and nightmares for the rest of their lives, it's for the victims on both sides, it's about every war that's ever taken place, it's about our future and learning from our past.
Okay. My rants done now too <3
This is great:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel, it was good hear another opinion. I might need to revise my thoughts about the day now lol.
